Our Super Saturday will be held on October 15 from 10am to 2pm. We will be taking orders until Sunday, Sept. 18. ALL money has to be paid by Sept. 18 (even earlier is better), the orders will be placed on Monday, Sept. 19. Please call Lisa Knapp with any orders or questions, 796-6339.
A crockpot soup lunch and dessert will be provided. Please come and visit with us whenever is convenient.

Fire Starters $1.50 per dozen
Make you own Fire Starter. Great for starting charcoal for dutch oven cooking, or starting a camp fire. They are very simple to make and can be stored. To make them you will need to bring your own paper egg carton and dryer lint. Some lint will be on hand if you turn up short. The wax and matches will be provided for $1.50 per 12dozen starters.

Fitness & Strength Training- Squats

We had a great fitness and strength training class given by Erick Johnson, a fitness trainer for Viking Crossfit. He introduced a few simple exercises that can be done at home to build strength and enhance fitness, which we all need.

The first is an air squat. These offer core strength training, muscle strengthening, and a good cardiovascular workout.

Instructions

Step1
Stand with your feet spread apart at a distance slightly wider than the shoulders. Plant your feet firmly on the ground with your weight on the heels to prevent yourself from rolling up onto the balls of your feet. It is a good idea to wear athletic shoes with good traction for this exercise.
Step2
Place arms straight out in front of your chest. The arms should be in a comfortable position as they act as counter balance to the motion of the exercise. You can hold the hands together or apart.
Step3
To get into the squat, bend both knees so they come out slightly over the top of your feet. This means lowering your hips down below your knee caps in a straight line.
Step4
Ensure the spine is in line with the center by bending over hips and curving out slightly as you reach the base of the squat. The entire torso region should remain in a vertical position.
Step5
Keep eyes staring straight ahead in line with the horizon. Keeping eyes fixed prevents the speed of the exercise getting you dizzy or disorientated.
Step6
Stand back up straight with the knees slightly bent as you come up out of the squat position. Your arms are still out in front of you.
Step7
Repeat the air squats at a medium pace for at least one set of 20 repetitions.

RS Christmas Dinner

We enjoyed a beautiful evening on Thursday, December 3 at our Christmas Dinner.

Kristy Gunnell had her home perfectly decorated for the occasion.

There were tables set up on the main floor and in the basement, all of which we filled.
Thank you to all of the people who helped with food and preparation.

We had a great time with great company.
After dinner, we were blessed to hear from Tina Mueller who shared the short story "That Thine Alms May be in Secret" by George Durrant.
Thank you to those who attended and made it a great evening.

RS Progressive Dinner

We will be having our Relief Society Progressive Dinner on Thursday, December 3. It will begin at 6:30pm. We will start at Marie Cardon's home for salad. The main course will be served at Kristy Gunnell's home, and then we will move to Cheryl Gurney's home for dessert. We hope to see you all there!

We got together on Tuesday to learn how to make aprons! In attendance was: Camie Johnson (our teacher), Joy Hutchins, Malisalee Gardner, Debbie Storrer, Amanda Pew, and Marilyn Eldridge (with her daughters). Thank you to Camie for the patterns and the know-how. The aprons turned out darling.

The "B" Tree

Kelly and Jeff Johnson are excited to be donating a 6'6" tree to the Festival of Trees. This is an annual fundraiser for Primary Children's Medical Center, where their daughter Bridgette had both of her surgeries due to her Hirschsprung's disease. Last year the event raised $1,495,840.74. Every penny of that money went directly to families that needed assistance, not to administrative costs.

In honor of baby Bridgette, Kelly and Jeff are looking for anyone and everyone that would like to help. They're calling their entry The "B" Tree in honor of Baby Bridgette and her surgeon, Dr. Black. They are decorating the tree in "B" words (bells, bows, birds, berries) and trying to fill the space below with "B" toys (bears, board games, baby dolls, etc.)

They could use help raising funds, with toy donations, and with physical labor. You can find more information on a website Kelly made called The "B" Tree.

The tree set up will be on Nov. 30.

The silent auction is held on Dec. 1.

Public viewing will be Dec. 2-5.

We would like to encourage any Relief Society members that can help to contact Kelly Johnson. This is a great opportunity for us to serve.

Super Saturday Has Come and Gone

Our Super Saturday was a huge success. There were many projects completed. There were a few projects uncompleted (like mine). We had a great lunch. And most importantly we got to share each other's company. Thank you so much to everyone who helped out: Malisalee and Amy for organizing it all. We have a tremendous enrichment board whose help we couldn't have gone without: Lydia, Tina, Cheryl, Shauni, Jody, Mindy, Cyntia, and everyone who helped with the food and other preparations. We all had a great time.

Zucchini Escapades (Highlights)

Who knew there have been so many zucchini and produce shenanigans going on in the past years? Apparently, a few of you knew. For the rest of us who didn't know, here is a recap of the night we learned how to be more creative in our usage of the summer's produce.

It all began with Kaye Palmer and Eloise Fugal (of the 1st ward). It has since included many others like Carol Huntzinger, Betsy Neil, Betty Gibbons, and even Kathryn Rockhill provided her surplus to promote the creativity of these wonderful women.

It started with one prank here, another prank there, brought to pass out of boredom, a need for laughter, and way too many zucchini in the garden. Zucchini seeds were planted in the neighbor's flower pots, then a notice came from "The Society for the Prevention of the Indiscriminate Placing of Unwanted Zucchini". As a peace offering a "Zucchini Baby" was given, complete with pacifier, blanket, and instructions. But the pranks didn't stop there. At one point one neighbor came home to find her bathtub full of floating zucchini ships, upon which were the names: Titanic, Old Ironsides, USS Constitution, and the Queen Mary. There were numerous small yellow squash labeled as a back-scrubber, a soup dish, and a rubber ducky. One yellow squash had fallen into the toilet where it was left.

By this point it was no longer who could out-prank the other, it was all out war.

A large zucchini, with a sign that said, "Lindon's Greatest Threat: Zuclear War!" was given.

In retaliation, a whole box was shipped via UPS to a very unsuspecting neighbor. Insided was a plethora of green squash in a variety of sizes with the following poem attached:

'Twas the end of summer, and all over town,

The end of zucchini caused people to frown.

Fugals and Palmers had had quite a feud,

Squash often appeared, large and green-hued.

Each trick more outlandish than the one before,

To think up a new one became quite a chore.

Fugals wondered how to end this, oh, what could they do?

It would have to be good, that much they knew.

When all of a sudden inspiration did come,

Employ UPS, no need even to run.

So now you have it, our second retort,

We hope you enjoy it, the ball's in your court!

Of course, the story doesn't end there. In fact, the zucchini war will probably never end. Now that people know, there may even be more zucchini escapades going on throughout the neighborhood.

Many women brought extra produce from their yard to share with others.

Card Making

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, Lydia Mower had a card making class for us. She had sample after sample of every kind of card you could imagine. The pictures below are the cards she had out on display.

Lydia also had two cards there for all of us to make. They were quick, easy, and they turned out darling. I forgot to take a picture of those.We had a lot of fun and decided that we would try to continue doing a card class each month, putting different people in charge of the cards. We will show the cards ahead of time, and those who want to sign up for the card can do so at church.

Thanks Lydia for putting so much time and effort into this class for us. Those who came really enjoyed it.

Family Tree with Leaves - $16 (You need to bring a 4 generations pedigree chart for yourself and a 4 generations pedigree chart for your spouse. If you want to do an idividual tree, contact Malisalee for more details.)

"HOME" Blocks - $18 / set (all supplies are provided)

"GIVE THANKS" or "Oh Holy Night" - $18 This is a 11" x 11" wood frame with a metal silhouette and vinyl saying. There are two options for this frame... "GIVE THANKS" or "Oh Holy Night"

Greg Olsen Picture Frame - $18 each 2 Frame colors to choose from - BLACK or CHERRY WOOD. Two themes to choose from - "The Family Proclamation" or "The Living Christ" (note: the black frame used as an example has a brown edged mat. The black frames we are using come with a black edged mat. The black frame is the same only the mat is different).

Large Magnet Board - $20 includes 4 square magnets (extra magnets are $.50 each) (you can bring your own paint or the following colors are provided: black, dk brown, dk red, and navy)

Family Birthday Magnet Board - $25 (this includes 6 large magnets) You need to provide your own paper and a list of names and dates to AMY ALVORD by Sunday, August 23rd. She will coordinate your personalized magnets with you before printing them. You will also need to provide your own paint. Additional magnets available: large $.25 each heart $.20 each small $.15 each. The idea is that the large magnets are for your immediate family (parents & children), the heart magnet is for anniversaries, and the small magnet is for extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins). NOTE: The heart magnet, while cute and unique, is also not as clear to read as the round magnets. Therefore, it would be difficult to use them for every birthday (since you will have far more birthdays than anniversaries.) However, they are darling accent pieces for anniversaries.

Dry Erase Monthly Calendar - $25 This is a 16" x 20" frame. (If you would like to provide your own frame the cost of the vinyl will be $10) There are two options with this frame... WITH the memo lines at the bottom, or WITHOUT them (the difference is that the calendar boxes will be larger without the memo lines.) In our example there is cream paper behind the calendar. This is to help you see the calendar better and is not meant to be finished like that. Instead it should be see through, so when you hang it on your wall, the wall color will show through and coordinate perfectly with your decor.

Personalized Metal Name Frame - $25 (you provide the paint) This has been a popular project in the past so we are offering it again for anyone who missed it.

Standing Metal Nativity - $25 Very simple project that involves painting, sanding and clear coating the base AND attaching the metal parts with screws.

"Wise Men Still Seek Him" - $25 This is a 16" x 9" wood frame with a metal silhouette and vinyl saying. There are two options for this frame... "Follow the Star" or "Wise Men Still Seek Him"

There will also be a quilt set up for Humanitarian Aid. We would appreciate your loving hands to finish it.

Super Saturday Projects and sign ups will be displayed on August 16th. They will also be available to view at Malisalee Gardner's home during the week of August 9th - 15th. Please call her before coming to assure that she is at home.
